A Family-Owned Real Estate Business in Ft. Garland, CO
At Sattler Mountain Land, our story embraces deep-rooted connections to nature and the unwavering love of a family-owned real estate business that stretches over 25 years. We treasure the tale of Wolfgang and Jane Sattler, who embarked on a fascinating journey together, exploring the rugged beauty of the San Luis Valley and the Southern Colorado landscapes near Ft. Garland, CO.
From these passionate beginnings and their lasting impact, now passed along through Wolfgang’s daughter Karen, we represent the intricacies of real estate and the warm, resilient bonds that span generations.

Legacy of Love for Land: A Journey with Wolfgang and Jane
Wolfgang purchased his first parcel at the base of Mt. Blanca in 1969 after journeying through Ft. Garland and Taos, on his way from Lakewood to Albuquerque to visit his parents. He loved the area & was mesmerized by the beautiful southern Colorado landscapes with the majestic Mt. Blanca towering on the horizon. In those days, a five-acre parcel in San Luis Valley Ranches could be purchased for $15 down and $15/month, paid off in 10 years. Over time, this cost increased, and so did Wolfgang’s land portfolio.
Choosing Passion Over Retirement
After Wolfgang retired from his career in Mechanical Engineering with the Bureau of Reclamation in 1994, he initially operated from a trailer on the side of Mt. Blanca, where he installed an internet booster just to download & send customer emails – a process that took over 10 minutes with photo attachments! For several years, he’d schedule appointments to meet buyers in the town of Blanca, showing them properties while living & enjoying the simple life in that trailer. Eventually he built a cabin so Jane would join him, and in 2003 they purchased land in Sangre de Cristo Ranches, building their current home and office in 2004.
Partners in Exploring Southern Colorado's Beauty
In 1996, Wolfgang met Jane, a companion who shared his love for Southern Colorado. They began exploring the Mt. Blanca area together, and with their marriage in 2000, Jane joined Wolfgang’s fascinating real estate journey. In 2003, their dream of owning a home near their beloved mountain was realized by establishing a quaint Spanish-style abode a few miles outside Ft. Garland in the Sangre de Cristo Ranches area. Despite having resided in a Denver condo, their hearts remained intertwined with the land they frequently visited in Costilla County.

Building a Legacy in Southern Colorado
Today, Sattler Mountain Land continues to offer parcels near Mt. Blanca and throughout the San Luis Valley and Sangre de Cristo Ranch subdivisions. We maintain our family tradition of low-pressure sales, encouraging full exploration by potential buyers. We believe in making extensive information available and letting the land speak for itself.
The Sattler family legacy expanded when Wolfgang mentored his daughter Karen in the art of land evaluation and selection. From mapping and staking land to building lasting relationships with buyers, Karen now carries forward the family tradition as principal owner and operator of Sattler Mountain Land.
